LA9 CORE

The CORE classes have been continuing their reading of The House on Mango Street and completing reading questions. Students can check their grades in PowerSchool to see what they are missing.

They were also given their Term 1 Vocabulary words, which we went over as a class Tuesday to make sure they had the right information for their test. Vocab test will be given in 2 weeks. Students can retake the vocab test only once

Students also took the district SRI test in the computer lab on Thursday. 

 ASSIGNMENTS
  • HOMS reading (finish p. 100 for 10/4, finish entire book for 10/8)
  • HOMS reading questions (check Power-school or the classroom board for specific assignments)

LA 9 HONORS 10/4

Last week the Honors class continued their reading of Night  by Elie Wiesel, took notes on World War II History timeline, and completed daily journals. Students were assigned to finish the book and their reading questions over the long weekend.

I met with students individually about their Narratives and explained my notes on their papers. Rewrites can be turned in any time up until OCTOBER 17.

This week students turned in their reading questions, discussed the book in groups, started textual analysis, and wrote essay claims in preparation for the writing portion of their Term 1 Exam.

Students were given their Term 1 Vocabulary words this week. A score less than 80% will not be accepted for HONORS Students. The test will be given in two weeks. Students may retake a vocab test only once, and must schedule and appointment BEFORE school  for retakes.

The class also completed the district SRI test in the computer lab on Friday.

EXTRA CREDIT OPTION

ALL LA9  STUDENTS: Attend the Shakespeare Showcase on MONDAY and type a 1-page Reflection Paper on a piece you liked best and why, as well as the piece you liked least and why. Staple your program to your reflection and turn in to Mrs. Baugh for extra credit!

LA CORE wk5

Monday & Wednesday were spent in the computer lab. Students had time to work on their Narrative Essays for Term 1. We reviewed the assignment, MLA Format expectations, and they had the rest of the time to write. Final drafts of Narratives are due Friday for a grade. Students were assigned to read p. 23-32 in House on Mango Street for homework and answer the reading questions for Thursday.

Friday we continued in The House on Mango Street, reading and discussing p. 33-42 together in class. We also did a "get-to-know-you" activity.
