CORE

This week students presented their dioramas from the book Anthem and turned in a writing assignment and evaluation relating tot the diorama. We discussed the book and projects as a class, as well as reviewed for their Final Exams.
  • Tuesday will be the Written Exam. Students should be able to write with clarity and purpose about the things we have worked on this term, as well as self evaluate. 
  • I will also pull students one at a time for a short Oral Exam on both Tuesday and Thursday. We will meet individually to assess their learning, assignments, understanding and grades for Term 4. 

HONORS

This week students should have completed their reading of Things Fall Apart prior to class. We discussed and wrote about the book, as well as reviewed for Final Exams. Students should feel confident in using specific examples from all of the class texts this year (ALL YEAR) to back up their ideas and  defend their learning for the year.

  • Oral Exams will be Tuesday and Wednesday in class. Students are expected to show their  ability to 1-speak clearly, 2-think deeply, and 3-communicate effectively. 
  • Thursday and Friday will be the Written Exam. Students should be able to write with clarity and purpose about the things we have worked on this term, as well as self evaluate.

HONORS

Students should be finished with the book Things Fall Apart for Monday 5/21. We will have a class discussion/journal  on the book, reviewing themes, plot, characters, and analyzing the meanings in the text- especially relating it to the poem "The Second Coming" which  Achebe alludes to at the beginning of the book.

Student should also be reviewing for their final exam. This term there will be a short written exam and an In-Class Oral Exam. Student will address the class with what they have leaned the most this year (using the class texts to back their learning) as well as answer questions regarding the content of the entire year.

Students should be finished with the book Anthem and were given last week to complete their Dioramas in class. The will be presented in class on MONDAY for their grades.

Student should also be reviewing for their final exam. The Final exam is comprehensive and will cover information from  the entire year.

CORE

Core class has been reading Anthem and answering reading questions, turning them in daily for grades. In conjunction with the ideas and themes in Anthem we watched the film "The Truman Show" discussing the similarities and differences. Students should be finished with the book and reading questions for Anthem by Friday.
All ANTHEM Reading Questions are DUE Friday May 11th 

We also read, annotated, and discussed the poem "Good Timber" and added it to their journals.


HONORS

The Honors classes finished up Anthem and started on our last full novel of the year: Things Fall Apart. We have also been watching the documentary "Happy" (which can be found on Netflix if you miss class and need to catch up) and recording our notes as daily journals and discussion the ideas we see. In conjunction with the documentary, student have been assigned a "Happiness Journal". they can pick one of the following, log their efforts, and be ready to discuss, evaluate and share by the end of next week.

Happiness Journal:
1- Compassion Mediation (10 minutes each day, log what you focused on)
2- Count Your Blessings (10 a day- no repeats)
3- Random Acts of Kindness (at least 1 each day- log what you did)
Logs and entries are DUE 5/17 for B3, 5/18 for A1


Finally, we went over Bloom's Taxonomy and practiced writing questions addressing each level of thinking in the theory.

HONORS

B3: This week we...
  • Completed Daily Journals and Discussions (this class is a discussion powerhouse!). 
  • Wrapped up Anthem with group chapter lessons where the students were pout into groups, assigned a few chapters from the book or discuss and review, then they were to prepare a 5 minute lesson to the class about the major themes, ideas, or important ideas from those chapters. 
  • Turned in Vocab 2 and went over it as a class to check understanding. The test on the Anthem Vocab will be at the end of the month.  
  • Presented and turned in Personal Anthems. 
  • Assigned to read & annotate Harrison Bergeron and be ready to discuss it on Tuesday.
